AXIAL THEATRE COMPANY

BEGINS 9TH SEASON OF PROVOCATIVE, RELEVANT AND ORIGINAL THEATRE IN WESTCHESTER WITH ANNUAL 10-MINUTE PLAY FESTIVAL

Tunneling Through: Glimpses from the In Between

AN EVENING OF 6 NEW SHORT PLAYS

Last spring, Axial staged, to great success, Two Hearts, a night of one-acts written by company
member Linda Giuliano. The production was lauded by Westchester Journal News critic Bob Heisler as “a thoughtful and emotionally engaging evening of new theater”. Ms. Giuliano returns this year with an original play in the 10-Minute Festival along with new works developed by other company members.

Featuring a collective of fifteen actors, writers and directors, the company focuses on development of new work from emerging playwrights through its Axial Playwrights series and studio ensemble work of improvisation and movement. In 2003, we saw the payoff of this collaborative spirit as Missing Parts, a series of short plays, premiered at HERE in New York City. This year, words from three new company voices will be heard: Emmy award-winning producer Stephen Palgon, director and HMActing instructor Rachel Jones, and actor Ryan Mallon, an Axial veteran of six performances.

Tunneling Through will explore the stories of people on the cusp of life-altering decisions. The Tunnel is about a young man on the precipice of a dangerous journey. Broken Ornaments involves the fractured relationship between a mother and daughter. Balls comedically investigates the male ego and friendship between competitors. Freedom Tower revolves around obsession and a troubled marriage. In-Between Stops delves into adultery and chance. Finally, Whale Watch takes the audience on a surreal ride of transformation and memory.
